Effective Productivity - 7 Tips to Designing a Productive Day
Working from my home office, I find at times that my day can sometimes overlap into my home life and visa versa. By setting goals and designing a plan for my day, I accomplish more and feel good about the results at the close of the day.
Here are seven tips to assist in designing your productive day:
1) Early to bed – early to rise. Just like your momma said – it makes a man healthier, wealthier & wise. Get the amount of rest that is right for you. We all vary in what is the proper amount of rest and when we need it. If your business is structured that you do not have to be available during standard office hours and you’re a night owl then by all means, take advantage of it. Just get the rest that your body needs.
2) Exercise – physically and mentally. Take 20 minutes and go for a walk or run, practice yoga, or meditate. Prep your body and your mind for the day that lies ahead.
3) Eat breakfast. Breakfast clears the mental cob webs. Start the day with a nutritional breakfast. Everyone is different as to what works best for them. For me, it’s high protein. Even though I love carbs, I avoid them at breakfast; they seem to drag me down.
4) Gratitude - be grateful. You are one of the privileged to be your own boss, to work from your home office, and have the support of your family and friends to follow your entrepreneurial dream. Take five minutes and think about what you are blessed with and grateful to have. Write down three things that you are grateful for that day. The universe will do the same in-kind.
5) Design your day. Check your calendar for must-attend events. Create a list of what you must accomplish that day and the tasks that you would like to complete as a bonus. Knowing what you need accomplish should give you clear direction and keep you from “wandering”. Even better – do this at the close of your work day for the following day. You’ll hit the ground running even quicker.
6) Block time for administrative tasks. Set aside 20 or 30 minutes at the beginning and the end of the day to review and respond to email and voice mail. This will help eliminate the loss of productive time and keep you on track in completing those tasks that benefit your business the most.
7) Motivate yourself. As an entrepreneur, you have to be your biggest cheerleader. Yes, your family and friends support you. But who gets you through the day when you face obstacles – both big and small? You do. Always remember why you started on this entrepreneurial path. Think back: what were your goals; what did you want to achieve; where did you see yourself in one year, in five years. Now picture yourself reaching those goals and surpassing them.
The Point
Design a plan that will create a productive day that works best for you. That’s one of the perks of being an entrepreneur, steering your own ship. Set a progressive path - generate results - achieving goals – be successful!
